Together with our Pasuk students, we experienced an unforgettable day on Thursday, August 8, during the annual school campus activity. The new school year had just started and that meant it was time again to purchase the necessary school supplies. The children, along with their parents, came enthusiastically to Metro Gaisano in the heart of Cebu, where a special corner had been set up for Pasuk. Here, with a budget of 3,000 Filipino pesos, the children were able to pick out their school supplies. Read more below the video and see photos at the bottom of the page.
The Pasuk staff was on hand to help, making sure each child received exactly what they needed for a successful school year. The joy and gratitude of the children and parents were palpable. For families living on less than €2.00 per person per day, the purchase of these school supplies is not only necessary but also a very special occasion. Although education is free in Cebu, parents must pay for teaching materials, uniforms, shoes and other supplies themselves, which is not feasible for many families, especially with multiple children. The lack of school supplies would have serious consequences: no school, no diploma, no chance of employment. This day was not only practical, but also a fun event with a sense of belonging. Away from daily worries, enjoying together in a cool and cheerful environment. We are very grateful that through the Pasuk program we can not only bring these wonderful children to the feet of Jesus, but also practically support them in what they need for their education to develop their talents.
