Flying start in Mabalacat thanks to first Pasuk vacation Bible school

On April 25 and 26, we had the opportunity to organize our very first Pasuk Vacation Bible School in the San Joaquin neighborhood of Mabalacat, in partnership with Transformation Gospel Church (TGC). This marks a special milestone in our new collaboration, as we seek to support children living in poverty through care, education – and above all, by offering hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The two-day program centered around the theme “Journey: Discovering God’s Miracles Along the Way.” Children aged 3 to 13 from four different communities joined us at a centrally located sports court. Through Bible stories, creative crafts, group activities, and songs, the children were introduced to God's love and power in a joyful and engaging way. They learned about the healing of the paralyzed man (Mark 2:1–13) and how Jesus calmed the storm (Mark 4:35–41). Each child received a personal workbook to participate actively and reflect on the lessons learned.

We were especially moved by the warmhearted efforts of the Pasuk team of TGC, many of whom personally understand the realities of poverty. The volunteers created a safe and welcoming environment where each child felt seen and valued. Over the past month, the team was trained by Awana Philippines to build a child-friendly, Bible-based program that combines spiritual teaching with practical care. Thanks to your support, we were able to provide not only an inspiring learning experience, but also nutritious meals each day – including pancit and sopas (a creamy Filipino chicken soup), with fresh, healthy fruit on the side.

The Vacation Bible School concluded on Sunday, April 27. Twenty-four children received their certificates of participation, there were performances with songs and Bible verse recitations, and nine mothers were present. It was special to see how parents encouraged their children and showed openness to follow-up. Many parents expressed their desire to send their children to the weekly Pasuk program.

This VBS is just the beginning of what we pray will be lasting relationships in the community. In the coming weeks, we hope to launch the weekly Pasuk Saturday program to provide consistent Bible teaching, loving guidance, and school support for the children.

We’re thankful to be building hope together for the children of Mabalacat. Will you pray with us as we take the next steps?
