More Than School Supplies: A Backpack Full of Hope

On Saturday, June 21, our twenty brand-new scholars in Mabalacat received their very first school supplies through the Pasuk program. Excitedly, they gathered with their parents at a nearby shopping center, where – guided by the Pasuk team from our church partner TGC – they were able to pick out their own school materials.

For families living on just €1.60 per person per day, purchasing notebooks, pens, uniforms, and shoes is a major challenge. For the parents, this moment meant far more than just a full backpack – it was a step toward education and a better future for their child.

Sharon, the mother of five-year-old Allaija, shared: “I can’t always afford what our children need for school. These supplies are such a big help for us. Thank you, TGC-Pasuk and all sponsors, for doing this for us!”

Tesie, the mother of John Paul (11), added: “These school supplies really ease our burden at the start of the new school year. They’re not just materials – they are, above all, an investment in our children’s future.”

During the shopping trip, the Pasuk team assisted both parents and children, making sure the right items were placed in each basket. A dedicated checkout counter ensured that the purchases were processed efficiently and correctly.

The school uniforms – mandatory in the Philippines – were out of stock at the main store but could be purchased in an adjacent clothing shop. Each Pasuk scholar also received their very first personal Bible.

The parents’ gratitude was tangible. It was a day full of joyful faces, where not only items were distributed but also love and encouragement. We’re thankful for the opportunity to support these children in a practical way – and to point them to the faithfulness of God, who sees and provides.
