On Saturday, September 27, we held the very first SportsFest for the Pasuk children in Mabalacat – a day filled with sports, unity, and faith. Although the weather forecast predicted heavy rain, we began the day with sunshine – what an answered prayer! In the open sports hall of the community, our eighteen scholars gathered, divided into three teams: blue, red, and yellow. Dressed in sporty outfits and wearing bold headbands in their team colors, they kicked off the day with a short parade. The excitement was felt right away.

After a hearty Filipino breakfast (rice with egg and hotdog), Pastor Glenn shared a short devotion from Hebrews 12:1–2 on the theme “Running the Race with Faith.” We reflected on the importance of perseverance – even when life gets difficult, both in sports and in our walk of faith. Pastor Marvin prayed for a safe and blessed day, after which the Philippine national anthem Lupang Hinirang was sung, and together we praised the Lord for His goodness and blessings. Volunteer Margaux then explained the game rules, making sure everyone understood the instructions and that safety came first.
Then the games began! In eight different contests – from sack races to patintero (a traditional Filipino running game where players try to cross a marked field without being tagged by defenders on fixed lines) – the children showed great energy, teamwork, and determination. They played enthusiastically, always with respect for one another and plenty of laughter.
Between games, the children enjoyed a warm lunch of chicken and pork adobo – a classic Filipino stew with meat simmered in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and spices – served with banana. At the end of the day, each team received a creative “trophy” filled with treats, but in truth, every child was a winner that day.
As an extra surprise, all scholars received their Pasuk backpack – proudly lifted high, each one personalized with their name – filled with groceries for their families. It was not only a gift of encouragement for the children but also a blessing for their homes. It was touching to see their joy – not only because of what was inside, but because they felt remembered and valued.
We look back with deep gratitude on a beautiful day. It is truly special to see how God has opened this door in Pampanga. The Pasuk program is alive – and growing. Above all, the children feel seen, loved, and strengthened through God’s Word. It’s wonderful to witness how warm friendships have begun to grow this year.
Please continue to pray for this meaningful project. The mission field in the Philippines is vast, and “the fields are white for harvest” (John 4:35). With God’s help, we long to reach more vulnerable children – through education and through the Gospel.
