Our program
Every Saturday, our school students come to the Pasuk Project at CBC. There they receive a healthy and nutritious meal, lessons from the Bible, love, personal attention and guidance. The children thoroughly enjoy singing, dancing, playing, crafts and other activities together. School supplies
At the end of the summer vacations, Pasuk students receive their necessary school supplies for the new school year, including a backpack, school uniform, shoes, socks, gym clothes and writing supplies. The children really experience this as a huge reward. Every year they eagerly look forward to this moment when they receive new supplies, which enables them to start the new school year. And the children's parents are moved to tears because they do not have to go into debt to purchase the necessary school supplies for their child. School trip
During the summer vacation, we take the children on a school trip to a beautiful resort in the jungle north of Cebu City. A number of swimming pools have been built in the resort, with clear spring water flowing through them. The Pasuk children normally do not leave their own neighborhood. This neighborhood, in its poverty, smog and heat, is their frame of reference. The outing to the resort was a huge happening for the children. The children are not used to the sociability, the food and drink available and the beautiful, clean nature. They thoroughly enjoy the fresh water. The school trip allows the children to enjoy themselves and really be children for a while. Vacation Bible School
Also during the summer vacations, the children come to the Pasuk project every Saturday. This way we offer them - despite the interrupted school rhythm - a weekly structure and we do not 'lose' the children. In this period we also hold our annual Vacation Bible School; six days in a row the children learn different Bible stories and work on them while making crafts, singing and playing. The parents also love to see their children learning and working together like this. The last day is extra special, when all the children can recite their rehearsed song and dance on the stage. The week ends with a festive graduation ceremony. Christmas celebration
Our Christmas celebration is a wonderful end to the calendar year. The Pasuk children, their parents/caregivers and the Pasuk staff come together as one big family. Everyone enjoys being together, playing games, eating and drinking delicious food and exchanging the various gifts. As in many countries, Christmas is also exuberantly celebrated in Filipino culture with gifts and good food. Our project director, Pastor Russel Villafuerte, dwelt in his speech on the real meaning of Christmas; about God's love for the world and the greatest Gift, that He gave His own Son to redeem everyone who believes in Him from sin and guilt. Contact with school
The Pasuk mentors have weekly contact with the teachers of our students.
This collaboration with school works very well. The conversations give us a clear picture of how the children are doing in school and allows us to make adjustments where necessary. For example, if a child does not show up at school, we are on top of this. The teachers express their gratitude for Pasuk Foundation's work. They emphasize that not all children have the privilege of being supported in their schooling like our students. The teachers do their part by keeping an extra eye on our students and encouraging them to do their best. Attention for parents
The parents of our sponsor children are actively involved in the Pasuk project. For example, they are present with their child during the purchase of school supplies, at the vacation bible school, the school trip, the Christmas celebration and other important moments.
At the beginning of each school year we enter into a written agreement with the parents in which they commit themselves to do everything possible to promote the school progress and school performance of their child. Each week our volunteers are in contact with the parents to discuss the school progress and family situation of the student. This allows us to provide help quickly if needed. We meet the parents in their own neighborhood, usually in the home of one of the schoolchildren. Some parents now attend Sunday church services, especially those who live within walking distance.
